This is a 2,000 sf addition to an existing house of 1,200 sf located in a half acre lot. The concept of the project was to have one big entertainment room containing subspaces such as a kitchen, bar, living and dining room which must be visually connected between each other. All with high pitched ceilings to give the owner a warm house feeling in its interior. The master bedroom has been added as an attachment to the main room but at the same time, it conforms an embracing architecture outdoors environment with a vaulted ceiling veranda as does the kitchen and living-dining room. TECTONIKA proposed a Mediterranean use of the house through the veranda in order to make a strong transitional relationship between all rooms and a livable outdoor backyard patio.
SUSTAINABILITY
The wireless operable skylights at the pitched ceiling help the hot air to evacuate in the summer, avoiding the use of the air conditioner. They also provide long hours of natural light in all rooms saving energy throughout the year.
